Magee Rehabilitation, which is part of the Jefferson Health System at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, offers both inpatient and outpatient care to both brain and spinal cord injury patients. The brain injury program focuses on the idea that recovery occurs in the real world, with strategies that help patients gain the most amount of function possible at home, work, school, and in their communities. An interdisciplinary team develops an individualized program for each patient.

The spinal cord injury program is one of 14 Model System Centers in the United States, and includes a renowned inpatient program, use of state-of-the-art assistive and therapeutic technology, and thoughtful reintegration services.

Magee Rehabilitation is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), as well as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children at Nemours provides rehabilitation for both spinal cord and brain injury patients up to the age of 17. Each child’s program is individually tailored, and is designed to ensure that the child returns to the maximum amount of independence at school, at home, and in the community.

Augmentative Communication, Child Life, Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation Engineering, Physical Therapy, and Speech/Language Pathology are incorporated into the program. The program uses a multidisciplinary approach, where therapists and the child’s treating physician work together.

The center also realizes the importance of the family in the child’s recovery. Parents, siblings, and other family members and friends are encouraged to take part in the treatment program by participating in education and support groups, family conferences, and counseling sessions.
