The Center for Rehabilitation is located at the Boston Medical Center, and treats patients with a wide variety of illnesses and injuries, including brain and spinal cord injury. The program combines state-of-the-art medical equipment and an interdisciplinary team to develop individualized programs designed to return the patient the maximum amount of function possible. The New England Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center is located at the Center for Rehabilitation, and has been designated one of the National Model Systems Spinal Cord Injury Treatment Centers. It is also one of seven facilities in the country - the only one in New England - that has been named a member of the Christopher Reeve Foundation NeuroRecovery Network, a network of centers who strive to provide, develop, and test cutting-edge rehabilitation therapies for those living with paralysis. A teaching hospital of the Harvard Medical School, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital has been consistently ranked a top rehabilitation hospital by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital offers six major inpatient programs in rehabilitation, including one in brain injury and one in spinal cord injury. The Brain Injury Program serves those with open and closed injuries, anoxic and apoxic injuries, as well as injuries that have resulted from illnesses. The Spinal Cord Injury Program treats spinal cord injuries that result from both accident and injury, with a focus on teaching patients how to physically and mentally cope in the community. The Southcoast Rehabilitation Center, located at Charlton Memorial Hospital, provides inpatient care and rehabilitation for both Brain and Spinal Cord Injury. Together with the patient' s family, an interdisciplinary team works with the patient to determine goals, then develops an individualized program to help meet those goals. Patients receive several hours of therapy each day from nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists, social workers, case managers, and other specialists. Southcoast Rehabilitation Center is a member of the Partners HealthCare System, which allows it to collaborate with other rehabilitation facilities throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
