Children' s Specialized Hospital is the largest freestanding pediatric rehabilitation hospital in the United States. The hospital offers Centers of Excellence in both brain injury and spinal cord injury. The Brain Injury Program, which was established in 1981, provides care for children of all levels of cognitive awareness, from infants to young adults up to age 21. The program focuses on returning the child to the maximum amount of function, while also taking pediatric and developmental milestones into account. The staff includes a board-certified pediatrician with specialty certification in neurodevelopmental disabilities, as well as a wide variety of specialists. The Spinal Cord Program provides individual and complex care to children with all levels of pediatric spinal cord dysfunction, including those that are dependent upon ventilators. Each program is individually planned and carried through using a team approach that includes the patient' s family. Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation provides extensive inpatient and outpatient services for children, adolescents, and adults with brain and spinal cord injury. Using an interdisciplinary team focused on individualized care, Bacharach offers a wide variety of services for brain and spinal cord injured patients including patient and family conferences, support group meetings, wheelchair clinics, community reintegration, peer and group counseling, driver training, and intrathecal baclofen therapy for spasticity management.
